National School Sport Dance Wednesday 19th January

January 25th, 2011

On Wednesday 19th January many schools across Durham City - and the rest of the UK - took part in the first ever National School Sport Dance.  This particular date saw 555 days until the start of the London 2012 Olympics.

The event was the brain child of Sarah Price and Paul Donaghy - and made use of a dance choreographed by some Young Ambassadors.  Their idea; 555 = Save School Sport; was designed the show the unity of the National SSP Network, and the amazing things which can be acheived when people work together.  They then had another amazing idea ... why not try to break a world record at the same time???

So everyone set out to try and achieve the largest simultaneous dance across multiple locations.  The dance took place nationally at 11.40am (20 to 12).

The date coincided with our KS2 swimming gala.  We didn't want anyone to miss out, so all swimmers took part in the dance after the gala.  Parents/grandparents/teachers who were there to support the swimmers all joined in, along with some students from Durham Gilesgate Sixth Form Centre.  We had a great time!

Thanks to everyone who took part, and fingers crossed for that world record :D
