January 4th, 2010

On Tuesday 8th December 2009, Team Durham in partnership with the County Durham Competition Managers and British Rowing, hosted the Inaugural County Durham Junior Indoor Rowing Final. Pupils from several schools across County Durham, including Durham Johnston, St.Leonard's and Durham Gilesgate from DCSSP, participated in the event at Maiden Castle and competed on Concept 2 rowing machines all wired up to a live projection for all to view.

It provided the chance for some of our top young rowers to post their best times of the year, and for others new to the sport the opportunity to simply improve their technique in a competition with others. Four rowers from each age group/category will now represent County Durham at a Regional Final on 2nd March, 2010 where they will compete against their rivals from Northumberland, Tyne & Wear and Tees Valley.

These students will now represent County Durham at the North East Regional Indoor Rowing Final at Maiden Castle on 2nd March, 2010. Here is Isaac McNally (St. Leonard's) posting a distance of 1147m in 4 minutes to win the Year 9 Boys Final. This equated to 101.96% Gold Medal Standard.

Well done to all involved and Good Luck in the Regional Final.
