October 12th, 2009

At the end of the last academic year schools, coaches and partnership staff were asked to nominate for the Durham City Sports Awards 2008/09.  The awards were split into categories, and people were asked to nominate providing reasoning and evidence

All of these nominations were taken to a panel of experts, who had the tough job of choosing winners in each category.

The panel had a really hard job choosing and some categories caused great debate.  Those who were nominated really did in some circumstances just miss out!

It was eventually decided that the following awards would be presented...

Outstanding Contribution to School Sport (Teacher) - Fiona Westerman (St Godric's)
Primary School of the Year - Bowburn Junior School
Secondary School of the Year - Durham Johnston School
Outstanding Contribution to School Sport - Tamlyn Lyons (Bowburn Juniors)
U11 sports personality of the year - Emma Bramley (St Margaret's)
Young Volunteer of the Year - Matthew Gillam (St Leonard's)

Each award was presented in the winner's school by Partnership Devlopment Manager, Laura Brown.

Congratulations to all of these winners!! Let's continue the hard work next year.

Some of these winners were also short listed for the County Durham Sports Awards, which was held at Ramside Hall on 9th October.  Although Durham Johnston narrowly missed out to another school, other nominees were most successful.  Bowburn Juniors were named Primary school of the year and Matthew Gillam, young volunteer of the year!  A huge congratulations to these winners... you did Durham City proud!
