The competition, organised by the Durham and Chester-le-street School Sport Partnership, gave both Durham schools and Chester-le-Street schools the opportunity to participate in four races. These four races split dependant on age and gender to ensure fair results, these included girls from years 3/4, then 5/6 and boys from years 3/4 then 5/6. The tack was split into two areas a short … metre for years 3/4 and a slightly longer … meter running track for years 5/6 where large crowds including parents, grandparents and friends were able to cheer on pupils and their schools throughout the marked area.

Pawesome the Panda made a special appearance to welcome all the children to the cross country event to encourage, and motivate them all to participate during the cold weather. The event saw over 500 children from both Durham and Chester-le-Street schools to participate in the annual fun filled race.

Cross country was introduced by the School Sport Partnership to encourage children to pursue different sports or activities of which they may not have given a thought to try. The event specifically encouraged individual sport participation with team spirit from their schools cheering them on to reach the finishing line.

The following results were accumulated for the two overall winning schools from both Durham and Chester-le-Street,
who will qualify to county level.
