Cricketers Shine at Festival

Nearly 300 children took part in the Durham Y4/5 Cricket Festival on 9th July at Durham City Cricket Ground. Unfortunately the Chester-le-Street festival had to be cancelled on the 8th as rain stopped play.

33 teams all came along to play in this fun cricket festival, some of the teams had the opportunity to practise in school but for others this was their first chance to play a full game of kwik cricket.

The teams were split across 9 pitches and got the chance to play 3 or 4 games against other schools. It didn’t take long for the children to get into the swing of things and there were some very close matches and even some draws.

It was a great festival and the sun stayed shining throughout. On each of the pitches there was a nice spread amongst the schools winning each of the groups.

The festival was only possible with the help of young leaders from Durham Johnston who umpired and scored all the matches as well as offering coaching tips to the teams.
