Aces of Fun at Year 3 Tennis
June 10th, 2014
The Year 3 Mini Tennis festivals took place on 13th and 14th May, unfortunately the weather meant the two festivals on 12th May had to be cancelled but we were able to rearrange them and they took place on 9th June.
28 schools took part in 6 festivals held at either Riverside or Maiden Castle. 4 boys and 4 girls from each school were chosen to play in the Tony Blair Challenge Competition. These children played matches against children from other schools. All of their points were added up to give a winning school. All of the winning teams would then be invited to the SSP finals on Monday 16th June.
Those children not taking part in the matches got to take part in a carousel of tennis activities. They worked around the stations all designed to build their tennis skills which included, pass the parcel, hit and catch, egg and spoon and hit the target. The children were split into teams and they each got a chance to practise the activity then had 5 minutes to score as many points as possible. There was some really high scores with some teams getting 100+ points!
The points from the matches were also very high and close! One heat had to be decided on points scored difference with only a few points between them. The standard of tennis was great, it was clear everyone had been practising hard.
Well done to everyone, and a big thank you to all the leaders helping out at the festivals from Fyndoune, Framwellgate School and especially the Year 6’s from Kelloe and Lumley!
