Friday 1stMarch saw the return of Zambia run held at Maiden Castle organised in partnership with Team Durham. The event is a great opportunity for mass participation and to raise money for a good cause.

Thirteen schools braved the chilly weather to take part in this year’s event which incorporates the cross country competition. In the Key Stage 1 races St. Oswald’s took the winning spots as well as runner up in the boys’ race. Esh winning took second place in the girls’ race.

In the Key Stage 2 and 3 races every position counted with the top 6 finishes from each school making up the team score. St. Margaret’s claimed team victory across all four races and Bluecoat secured runner up in all but one with Shincliffe taking second place in Key Stage 3 Girls’ race. Individual runners also stood out with qualifying places going to St. Goric’s, St. Michael’s and Belmont Juniors.

To round off the day Pawsome Panda took on other mascots from Durham University Colleges in the mascot race, finishing a respectable 2ndplace!

The SSP would like to offer their congratulations to all that took part in the event as well as the volunteers from Team Durham and St. Leonard’s.
