Superb gymnastics routines on display at Deerness Leisure Centre on 12thFebruary as Silver Tree, St. Godric’s and Cestria all took part in the Key Steps competition.

After an energetic group warm up, each competitor got a chance of a final practise before performing their routine in front of a judge from British Gymnastics. The set routine was to showcase fundamental gymnastic skills and movement patterns which were preformed with great accuracy and precision. A gymnastics circuit was also set up which focused on jumping skills using different apparatus.

The scores reflected the hard work and skill that had gone into each of the routines but it was St. Godric’s that had the highest team score in both Key Stage 2 and 3 and with just one performer in the open category achieving an outstanding 9.9 St. Godric’s made it a clean sweep and will represent Durham City at the School Games. As the only competitor from Chester-le-Street, Cestria Primary School also qualified for the County Durham School Games.

All of the performers had great gymnastic skills and enjoyed the event, they should all be proud of their achievements. Congratulations and keep practising!
