On Friday 1stJuly the 4th Annual County Primary Schools Athletics Finals took place at Shildon Athletics Stadium.

On a lovely sunny day – the last day of National School Sport Week – the six SSP’s in County Durham came together for a fantastic feast of athletics. The Durham City SSP team consisted of 27 pupils who had been selected after qualifying from the Durham City Championships last month.

 

On the track both the boys and girls teams were well represented in each of the finals:-

60m Boys – Thomas Bolton 2ndand Matthew Ferguson 4th

60m Girls – Katie Popay 1stand Sophie Morgan 2nd

80m Boys – Oliver Herring 5thand Ryan Woods 6th

80m Girls – Eleanor Norton 4th

60m Hurdles Boys – Myles Willis 2ndand George Daglish 3rd

60m Hurdles Girls – Lauren Donaghy 3rd

800m Boys – Alfie Pearn 5th

800m Girls – Seren Thompson 3rd

4x100m Relay Boys – Thomas Bolton, Matthew Fergusson, Ryan Woods, Myles Willis 4th

4x100m Relay Girls – Lauren Donaghy, Helena Johnsen, Eleanor Norton, Katie Popay 1st   

 

In the field events Durham pupils were also well represented with top six finishes in all but one event :-

Javelin Boys – Lewis Crisp 3rd

Javelin Girls – Sophia Atkinson 3rd

Shot Boys – Connor Dobson 2ndand Jacob Dickinson 4th

Long Jump Boys – Oliver Herring 2nd

Long Jump Girls – Lauren Donaghy 3rd

Triple Jump Boys – Christopher Blakey 4thand Conall McGoran 6th

Triple Jump Girls – Naomi Naylor 2ndand Savannah Lloyd 4th

Pictured above are the Durham City Girls who won medals in the Relay and the 60m sprint Champion.

Overall the Durham City Girls were first with 50 points and the Boys were second with 49 points. When the scores were combined Durham finished 2ndoverall with 99 points just behind Chester le Street with 100 points (their Girls 34 and Boys 66).
