June 8th, 2011

Maiden Castle was the venue for Durham City's largest ever Primary Athletics competition. Over 350 pupils took part with 27 school teams competing for the honour of being crowned the City Champions. Children were able to try one track event from :- 60m Sprint, 60m Hurdles, 80m Sprint and 800m. They could also compete in one field event:- Standing Triple Jump, Long Jump, Shot Putt and Turbo Javelin. The day was then finished off with the 4 x 100m relay race.

After some really close finals on the track and a short rain break (!) St Margaret's Primary School was declared the winning team on 70 points, in second place were Pittington B team on 42 points and in third place were Blue Coat with 34 points. The top two athletes in each of the events have now been selected to represent Durham City and will compete in the County Athletics Finals on Friday 1st July at Shildon Athletics Track - we wish the team the best of luck!!
